A key part of growing Norwich Fashion Week to the varied week-long event that it has become has been our eagerness to celebrate the diverse creativity our city has to offer. When we found out The Norfolk Arts Awards were being planned we were keen to show our support and get involved by sponsoring the Fashion and Costume Design Award. The three creative forces that made it to the finals of this category were…
Norfolk shoe manufacturer Van Dal – Norwich has a rich history in the shoe industry and we were very excited to see Van Dal’s recent collaboration with Norfolk textile designer Carol Lake.
Costume designer Kirsteen Wythe – Fans of The Vintage Show at NFW will have witnessed Kirsteen’s amazing designs in action on Burlesque performer Natalya Umanska.
Recent NUA fashion graduate Jessica Clarke – The NFW team attended the NUA show at Graduate Fashion Week this year and Jessica’s incredible set put her firmly on our ‘one to watch’ list.
A huge well done to all the finalists, it’s clear from talking to Chair of NFW Emma Harrowing who was one of the judges, choosing a winner was no easy task. Congratulations go to to Kirsteen Wythe who was announced the winner after impressing the judges with a body of work which included costumes for the Norwich Theatre Royal pantomime Peter Pan.
NFW also presented a fashion showcase which included designs by Siofra Connor Millinery, April Lunch, Jessica Clarke, Toby Neave, Jo Randall and Gemma Hyde alongside items from The Costumes and Textile Association collection and William Wilde lingerie from London Street boutique Proudlock and Harry.
Ensuring the second half of the show opened in style, the showcase turned the theatre’s aisles in to runways before taking to the stage to be met with audible gasps from the audience. We really must thank the audience for their rapturous applause and for the fantastically positive feedback about the showcase. It was wonderful to give a taster of what Fashion Week is all about and we hope you all join us for the shows in March!
Thanks also to all helped the NFW fashion showcase possible (and a lot of fun!). To see more behind the scenes images pop over to our Facebook and if you head to our Instagram account you’ll see more sneak peeks and videos of the hair and makeup action.
