NUA Guest Post – The Dipple & Conway Hair Show
Joining the Norwich Fashion Week team during NFW16 were students from the Norwich University of the Arts. Several students working towards a BA (Hons) on the Fashion Communication and Promotion course experienced the week as it happened, with roles including assistants to the show coordinators and exclusive access for blog/vlog content. Student Aaliyah Townsend blogs about The Dipple & Conway Hair Show.
The first ever Norwich Fashion Week ‘Hair Show’ took place on March 11th in the heart of the city at the OPEN venue. The show was designed to celebrate a fusion of fashion and hair.
If NFW were aiming to portray how the hair and fashion industries work in harmony – they succeeded. The show highlighted the amount of talented hairdressers in the city, showcasing the impact these stylists, color technicians and barbers have on finishing the overall fashion look with their inspiring hair creations.
A live DJ set by local stars Tropico kicked of the evening and created the soundtrack to the show. Hair styles ranged from innocent wedding themed fishtail plaits to ridiculously short, straight cut fringes. The fashion looks were refreshingly varied and yet the majority had a fierce yet edgy feel. Overall an electric and almost grunge tinged look dominated. A standout look of black, mesh and bondage tape was a potential emerging trend. Dramatic thigh high boots matched the cutting edge haircuts perfectly.
Show sponsors Dipple and Conway Opticians provided another exciting element – with fashion forward eye ware making a creative statement from the catwalk.
A surprise performance from Rosebud closed the evening – with energetic fierce strutting they absolutely smashed it.
