NUA Guest Blog: The Retailers Show
Students currently studying on the BA (Hons) Fashion Communication Programme at Norwich University of the Arts share their experience of Norwich Fashion Week 2017.
Lily Beech attended The Retailers Show.
Approaching the first event of the week I felt a sense of excitement as I was guided through the grand double doors. Inside a mixed audience gathered, all ages and all styles, patiently waiting for the inspiration that the retailers show would hold for the upcoming season – and their future wardrobes.
The VIP area bustled with the chinking of gin filled glasses, provided by the Norfolk based Adnams Brewery, a sense of glamour graced the looks of the ticket holders. Once we had taken our seats the show began promptly, giving an authentic feel akin to the fast-paced theme of London, Paris, Milan and New York.
Models (from Sandra Reynolds) walked professionally as they showcased the key elements of the new seasons trends. Men sported natural tousled hair, fitting with the summer inspired styling. Women’s hairwas similarly beachy, yet glamourous with intricate braids and loose waves on show.
The show opened with a bang by the iconic womenswear of Jarrolds with a nautical thread throughout the looks. From the sports-luxe ‘Fila’ pieces of Elements to the traditional gentlemen’s apparel from Gallyons we saw pieces displayed for any age range or individual style.
The brilliant summer styling of florals and flowing chiffons from East, Sahara and Monsoon, undeniably gave into the bohemian trends, brilliant for the transitional seasons. All definite crowd pleasers. The music, lighting and the fabulous regal venue brought the whole atmosphere of the evening to a wonderful conclusion, making it more than just a fashion show but into a local iconic event that is impossible to be miss.
As guests made their way to the exits whispers of ‘I want that one’ and ‘I want this one’ filled the air. The Retailers Show is both an inspirational visual feast for the audience and a creative outlet for the brilliant independent stores and essential chains of Norwich city.
