NFW15 – The Retailers Show Sponsored by Mercedes Benz
The first show of Norwich Fashion Week 2015 certainly started the week off in style. Keen to give students at Norwich City College the full fashion show experience we asked them to blog their thoughts on the show for us –
The Mercedes Benz of Norwich Retailers Show 2015
As students of Fashion Retail we had the pleasure of attending the launch of Norwich Fashion Week 2015 – the Mercedes Benz Retailers Show at OPEN.
With so much to see it’s hard to know where to start! Therefore we will begin with the incredible venue – as an old bank the OPEN banking hall provided a suitably grand venue with a clear, spacious and bright feel.
The show started with the presenters taking to the stage, with Heidi and Dave from Heart Radio showcasing some fabulous fashion – Heidi was sporting a pair of bejewelled towering heels!
The music added a dramatic touch to the whole show adding impact to the collections – they were also songs that everyone knew so we could sing along and enjoy it!
So what trends did we spot on the catwalk? Here are our tops tips for Spring/Summer 2015…
For the ladies the Seventies are back again with fringing, floppy hats, big sunglasses and bright prints. It’s time to root out your bold accessories – think oversized handbags and statement jewellery. Florals will continue to feature but it’s time to make those florals graphic! And finally blue is everywhere – a key feature of all the collections, use to add a pop of colour to your Spring outfits.
Men’s trends featured just as heavily on the catwalk with tailored looks and shorts being featured prominently. Shoe trends consisted of brogues, loafers and boots – heightening that tailored look. More casual looks were achieved with leather jackets, jeans, printed t-shirts or polo’s with a range of different accessories like hats, biker helmets and duffle bags.
Hair became a trend in itself at the Retailers Show and one look that really stood out to us was the ringlet/corkscrew curls created by The Gallery – it really emphasised the fun and edgy feel of the Women’s collections. With Swagger and Jacks taking control of the Men beards were the look of the night with quiffs adding an effortless touch- the ‘man bun’ also made a cheeky appearance! Summery shades were used for make-up with lilac eye shadow and contouring being used giving a bronzed look to create a summer glow.
The Retailers show is unique in that it showcases independent retailers alongside major brands whilst giving a true taste of the Spring/Summer collections ahead!
For us the real highlight of the show was the opportunity to see the new collections, key trends and get a first look at the new season before it hits stores.
We can’t wait to see what else the week has to offer…
