Guest Post: Blogger Jordan Wake talks fashion & inspiration with Karen James Welton
Fashion Blogger Jordan Wake is the face behind Jordan and Fashion. We first met Jordan at NFW16 where he impressed us with his interest in the fashion industry. Having sat down with Jordan for a chat where he bombarded us with a constant stream of fashion media related questions, we thought we’d keep an eye on how Jordan’s Blog would develop. Surely anyone with this much appetite for the industry and an obvious eagerness to support creativity could only mean that he was destined to go on some very interesting style adventures.
Sure enough, we’ve observed Jordan traveling around the likes of Paris and London to attend shows and emerge himself in the style scene. So when Jordan got in touch about NFW17 we not only got him to come along to shows, we also invited him to assist on a fashion shoot, giving him the opportunity to see exactly what goes into creating some of the Fashion Week imagery. During the week we also gave him backstage access so he could see the shows from all areas. Whilst with us, he interviewed several people he met along the way and first up is his chat with Norwich stylist Karen James-Welton.
Whilst I was at Norwich Fashion Week ’17 I had the pleasure of catching up and interviewing the fabulous vintage fashion stylist Karen James-Welton!
JW: What does a stylist do?
KJW: Putting outfits together for photoshoots and magazines, personal shopping, styling backstage, running workshops….it’s all good fun!
JW: What inspires your sense of style?
KJW: By buying what I love and being different, I like using colours and prints in my outfits. When I get the time I enjoy looking through magazines and watching old movies to find inspiration.
JW: Your favourite part of Norwich Fashion Week?
KJW: The Vintage Show!
JW: What three words would you use to describe Norwich Fashion Week?
KJW: Inspirational, individual and electric.
JW: What is the best fashion secret that you’ve learned?
KJW: Don’t follow rules and be true to yourself!
JW: What is something you would never wear?
KJW: Head to toe black or beige.
JW: Your favourite designer?
KJW: Thats a tough question but it would have to be Gucci! Although an all time favourite would be Chanel which is a classic that keeps being reinvented.
JW: Your favourite collection from the recent fashion month?
KJW: Gucci, Gucci, Gucci!
JW: If you could design a collection with somebody, past or present, who would it be?
KJW: Coco Chanel! I loved how unconventional she was and thought outside of the box, she gave women the freedom to wear what they wanted.
JW: What fashion magazine do you read?
KJW: Usually British Vogue, Paris and Italia Vogue when I can get hold of them. I’ll occasionally dip into Elle from time to time.
JW: Whats currently happening in the fashion world right now that really excites you?
KJW: I love that people are dressing how they want to and putting their own take on recent fashion to create individuality.
JW: What can we expect to see from you in the future?
KJW: Well I currently work with a friend of mine, The Stylist & The Collector, where we plan on doing some workshops and showing people how they can incorporate vintage into their day to day life. I also plan on launching a new vintage campaign which I’m really looking forward to. I’ve recently spoken to someone at Norwich Fashion Week about a future collaboration, but I can’t say to much about that right now…
