Guest Post – The Mercedes Benz of Norwich Retailers Show Beauty Looks
A guest post from makeup artist Phillipa-Chloe Pool about working as an MUA on The Mercedes Benz of Norwich Retailers Show 2016.
Fashion Week is an event that is known all over the world. Everyone who knows about how fashion week works, knows that it is a huge event for everyone involved. They’re almost worthy of being national holidays in my opinion!
This year was the first year that I have been a part of something like this and I was full of nerves and excitement. I was part of the make up team for a series of shows during Norwich Fashion Week. I am going to share my experience back stage for all of the four shows that I was a part of over a series of blog posts.
First up is the Retailers Show. This show was showcasing some of the new Spring/Summer16 looks from all of the local stores in Norwich. I was doing three of the make up looks which were created by two of the beauty experts at Jarrolds. The base for all of these looks were quite natural as the main focus was either the eyes, lips or both.
Some back stage pictures. Setting up our area. Filming for Mustard TV.
Watching the run through. This was great to see as we could tell what we needed to fix for the show.
Face Chart of Look 1.
The first look was my favourite to re-create. It was very ‘black swan’ and inspired look. The main focus for this look was the eyes. We stippled black mascara onto the eyelids using a mascara wand. This gave a really delicate lace look. The models did say this felt a little odd when applying it but the finish is gave on the cat walk was amazing! We flicked the shape upwards to create a feline flick. This really helped open the eyes when they were walking under the lights. We then put a thin coat of mascara on the lashes, we didn’t need/want to overload the lashes as the eyelids had enough drama. On the lips we used a nude colour lip balm from mac which muted their natural lip colour so all focus was on the eyes.
Face Chart of Look 2
Look two was a contrast from the first look, and one that could be worn outside without looking too wild. We had a fairly simple eye lid and used a mac liner called ‘teddy’ to create a brown smudgy eye on both top and bottom lash lines. Then we had a tiny bit of blush just to warm their complexion up while finishing with a bold red lip.
Face Chart Look 3
Look three was the most ‘out there’ of them all. It was inspired by a space theme with glossy eyes, gold lips and contour. We used a clear lip gloss on the eyelids. Yes eye lids! Then we used a thin coat of mascara. This was quite hard to apply because of the sticky gloss. For the lips we used a liquid eyeshadow from Dior and then a gold powder pigment again from Dior. The pigment just helped the liquid shadow stick and not slip off too easily.
Back stage all went fairly smoothly, definitely more than I thought it would be. Of course time was of the essence and everything had to be done quite quickly as we had lots of models to make up! I was so happy with the looks that I created. Of course being the perfectionist that I am, there are things that I would have liked to tidy up and neaten out a bit, but we all need to start somewhere.
